Big Cheese Studio has launched Cooking Simulator – Pizza on Nintendo Switch today, May 13, as a standalone expansion of Cooking Simulator that retails for $14.99 on the eShop. Operating slightly differently to a restaurant management game, Bakery simulator will task you with sourcing ingredients, learning how to make an assortment of breads, and – naturally – avoiding death by fire.
One of the DLC features is a Chaos Tool which allows the player to mess with food and items in a dangerous way. Cooking games and restaurant games don’t always have to appeal to the chef in us; they can be colourful time management games, or require some serious recipe grinding. This tycoon restaurant game focuses a little less on the cooking and more on management games, complete with a customisable chef and a range of style options for your new eatery.
The game promises more than 80 recipes for you to master, a range of perks and skills to unlock, over 140 lifelike ingredients, advanced cooking mechanics, and realistic physics to have fun with. The game also apparently has both Career and Sandbox modes available to dive into. Experience the world of restaurant cooking in a highly polished, realistic kitchen.
Possibly the only slight disappointment is a lack of desserts on the menu to sweeten proceedings. Nevertheless, with around 70 different recipes to master, there’s decent variety at least. Short list of game mechanics that are interesting and/or can be abused over the parts of Cooking Simulator that are scored, such as the Career Mode. The simple fact that Cooking Simulator does what it says on the label makes it a must-have for anyone who loves cooking as much as they love gaming. In a lot of games that feature cooking, the secret to a great dish is some simple good ol’ fashioned button mashing. In this game, one has to be careful and conscious of every move.
While memorising the necessary stages is possible for a selection of dishes, as more are unlocked, that becomes virtually impossible. They certainly do feel “slippery” at first, but before long you begin to unlock skills that allow you to, for example, have a steady hand while chopping fruits and veggies. You also earn skill points that allow you to try out new recipes.
